        ANTHONY FRANCIS FERNANDES

I have chosen Tony Fernandes, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Air Asia. He is the leader of Air Asia, one of the most successful low cost flight. He is well known for his unique leadership style and his passion for what he does. He is also famous for making a huge business out of only two planes.  Below is a short timeline on how Tony Fernandes started his airline industry.

·         Tony Fernandes was initially in the music industry. When it failed, he decided to make a clean break. Tony left his job to pursue his childhood dream, which is to set up Asia’s first ever low cost airline.
·         Mr Fernandes purchased Air Asia from a Malaysian government-owned company in September 2001 for 25 pence. Air Asia was severely indebted at that time. Tony started to reform the airline as a short-haul low cost carrier, similar to those operating in the west.
·         Tony’s decision lead to the development of short-haul flights around Asia and he saw his business expanding rapidly. The company, then grew from two planes in 2002 to a fleet of 86 planes flying 30 million people around the world.
