Tony Fernandes's management style

HOW DOES TONY FERNANDES MANAGE HIS COMPANY?

Tony Fernandes leads his company using both the autocratic and democratic style. Although he is very strict on how his employees should work, he also encourages his people to speak up. His style is to break the chain of command by relaxing the formality and getting every brain in the game. The chain of command is basically the  order in which authority in an organization is passed on from the top of the management to every employee at every level of the organization. According to one of his employees, he is ‘Tony’ to everyone and the only difference is that he gets a special parking slot right next to the door of his building. Tony’s management style is ‘walk around’. He prefers walking around the company and communicating with his employees. To him, “employees come number one, customers come number two. If you have a happy workforce they’ll look after your customers anyway.” Tony thinks that his employees are very important to him as a business man can have a lot of money and many ideas, but if he doesn’t have the people, he will never be able to succeed. He also manages his company by applying marketing tactics such as massive advertising and giving out promotional packages.

  1. I think that Tony has a very unique leadership style. Compared to other leaders, he seems very jovial and caring about his employees. However, it will be better for him to be a bit more strict on how his employees should perform as it is indeed vital for a leader to make sure his employees are productive and serious when it comes to work.
